Police terrorising us over 75-hectare land — Ibeju Lekki community

Residents of Abijo town in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State have called on the Inspector General of Police to come to their aid due to what they described as high level of Police lawlessness and harassment.
According to a representative of the leaders of the community, Mr Bamidele Ogundele, the harassment by the police has become unbearable.
He said that the harassment started when a large parcel of land (about 75 hectares) in the community became a subject of a law suit.
“The land in question is the subject of all these harassment. It is owned by the Dada Bakare family and the case is currently in court with suit number LD/2308/2011 against Alhaji Akeeb Adams and others, for illegal trespassing” Ogundele said.
He further added that the community sent a petition to the office of the Inspector General of Police, and the matter was assigned to the PRO department of Nigeria Police CID in Abuja.
“Having done all these, we had hoped that the harassment would stop, but it has now become unbearable and most of our people are on the run due to Police running after them. We are calling on the Inspector General, Solomon Arase; the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode and President Muhammadu Buhari to please come to our aid,” he pleaded.
