Messi skips Barcelona training ahead of crunch Atletico game

The Argentina international is attending the birth of his second child but is available to face the Rojiblancos at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has missed training to attend the birth of his son ahead of the Catalan outfit's crunch clash with Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

The Argentina international was granted to leave to attend the arrival of his second child on Friday, but manager Luis Enrique has confirmed he will be available to take on the Rojiblancos.

"Messi is available although he didn't train," he told reporters.

Luis Enrique is without Claudio Bravo and Dani Alves through injury for the clash with the Diego Simeone's side while Gerard Pique remains unavailable through suspension, though Sergi Roberto returned to training this week.

Barca travel to the Vicente Calderon Stadium having won both their opening Liga fixtures, with Atletico also holding a 100 per cent record.
