Roger Federer set up an all-Swiss semi-final clash with Stan Wawrinka at the US Open after brushing aside Richard Gasquet in straight sets.
The Swiss Maestro rarely looked troubled as a combination of
irrepressible serving and sizzling winners gave his French opponent few
chances in a one-sided encounter that concluded 6-3 6-3 6-1 in just one
hour and 27 minutes.
Fed-Ex, who will now meet Stan Wawrinka in Friday's semi final,
roared out of the traps and grabbed the decisive break in the sixth game
of the opening set before scoring a psychological blow early in the
second.
Gasquet fought hard just to stay in it but eventually found
himself with a mountain to climb as he double faulted to hand the second
set to the world number two.
Federer continued to bewitch the Frenchman with some explosive
tennis, firing no fewer than 50 winners, as he sealed the third set for
the loss of just one game.
