MEMBERS
of a cult group were said to have attacked the chairman of Obosi land
Management Council, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State,
Mr Ezeugo Ikemu Zion on Wednesday, at his office.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the cultists stormed the chairman’s office but met his absence. However, when they were about to leave, the chairman was spotted close to his office environment. The attackers, reportedly pounced on him, and attacked him with a machete, giving him a deep cut on his head. Four other people who were with him were also attacked.
Speaking to newsmen on his hospital bed, Zion said, “Because I am picked as the chairman of Obosi land Management Council, the cultists have continued to terrorise our community. They stormed my office with the intention to kill me because I am not their member.”
He accused a community leader of sponsoring the cultists, adding that two of them were arrested with the concerted effort of the local vigilance group led by Arthur Ilongwu and the Special Anti-Cult Squad and taken to Enugwu-Ukwu.
“Four of my officials were injured in the process and I managed and called the police,” he disclosed further.
Another victim of the attack, Mr Chukwudi Ilobi said, “the cult group members are from 22 fraternity. They hit me with a club on my mouth when I was defending our chairman. What they are planning to do is to frustrate the upcoming Ofala festival of His Royal Highness, Igwe Chidubem Iweka and possibly dethrone him and install their member as Igwe,” he stated.
“I appeal to Governor Willie Obiano to come to our rescue because they are terrorising our community,” he pleaded further.
