Usain’s bolt to glory hailed as victory for athletics over the drug cheats

Sometimes in sport, you are better letting the images do the talking. Or in this case tweets. Usain Bolt was never at his best in the 100m World Championships final against Justin Gatlin, but sometimes not being at your best is good enough.
Especially when you are the world record holder, and a multiple Olympic and world champion who is the greatest and most popular sprinter in history.
It seemed the entire world rejoiced in Bolt’s victory over hot favourite Gatlin, who went into the race 2/5 odds on with Bolt at 9/4.
Quite astonishingly, Gatlin crumbled in the moment of truth with Bolt emerging victorious in 9.79sec, a nose ahead of the American who gone 28 races unbeaten before Beijing.
Some commentators don’t understand why Gatlin is allowed to compete at this level having twice been banned for failing drugs tests.
A victory for Gatlin would have been a hollow win for many. No wonder people were thrilled then about Bolt’s latest golden moment, a race arguably as memorable as his 9.58 seconds world record set in Berlin.
They included his favourite football team Manchester United. Superman could not have delivered a better ending.
