Suspected cultists kill 3 in Benue

THREE persons were killed on Saturday night with three others also injured in separate attacks by suspected cultists in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
According to a source, the hoodlums suspected to be cult members launched an attack on a bar popularly known as Balcony, behind Commissioners Quarters on old Shuluwa road, shot amidst fun-seekers and killed one with other persons injured.
One of the injured persons, was a foreigner, Virkman Neggi said to be Regional Fibre Head of Glo Mobile network and another person identified as Fred shot in the leg.
The deceased and injured persons, it was learnt, were among other fun-seekers at the relaxation centre around 9.30 p.m. when the hoodlums who escaped after the incident, invaded the bar.
A resident close to the area, who confirmed sporadic shooting at the scene of the incident, said they hurriedly shut their door while many motorists that were caught in the melee had to run for their lives.
Also, another incident relating to an attack by cultists at Welfare Quarters of the capital city, led to the death of of two persons while another victim in the attack was shot in the leg.
Sources told  the Nigerian Tribune that the attack  might not be unconnected with the move by the community in the area to forcibly push some elements suspected to be cult members out of the area.
It was also gathered that the suspected cultists who were said to be heavily armed, resisted the move and repelled the angry youths, leading to the death of two persons whose names were given as Donald Kaaungwa and Myon Usha with  another injured.
Confirming the report, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), Mathew Oku said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Center while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Oku, who warned criminals in the state to have a change of heart or seek haven in other places, warned that the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Dibal Yakadi, a no-nonsense police officer, would not condone any act of criminality in the state.
He maintained that the police was already on the trail of the gunmen and assured that they would be made to face the wrath of the law as soon as they are apprehended.
