A 45 year old man, Ganiyu Ogungbemi, has been arraigned before an
Osogbo Magistrate Court for allegedly raping a 12 year old girl (name
withheld).
According to a charge sheet obtained by our correspondent on Friday,
the accused allegedly committed the offence on March 17th, 2015.
Ogungbemi was said to have sneaked into the residence of the girl’s
parents in Ejigbo, Osun State where he was said to have forcefully
penetrated the girl.
The victim was said to have been left in the pool of her blood after being defiled.
The Police prosecutor, Mr. Merit Wilson, told the court that the
suspect assaulted the girl while struggling to have carnal knowlege of
her.
He told the court that the accused committed an offence contrary to
and punishable under Section 31 (c) (d) and 360 of the Criminal Code,
Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the two counts of rape and assault levelled against him.
His counsel, Mr. Raji Abiodun, urged the presiding judge, Olusola
Aluko to admit his client to bail in liberal term, saying the offence
had not been proven against him.
Aluko granted the accused bail in the sun of N50, 000 with two
sureties in like sum. He said the sureties’ addresses must be verified
by the court bailiff.
He then transferred the case to Ejigbo Magistrate Court and adjourned the case till 2th September, 2015 for mention.
