LeBron James to pay for more than 1,000 kids to go to university

Basketball superstar LeBron James has announced that his foundation will help to sponsor more than 1,000 university scholarships as part of his ‘I Promise’ scheme.
The LeBron James Family Foundation has already been helping children through high school, but now he is to extend that support by saying he will cover their tuition fees at university if they progress through his programme.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star told ESPN: “I think it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of, this is very special to me. As a kid growing up in the inner city and as an African American kid, you don’t really think past high school because it’s not possible or your family can’t support you. “For us to be able to do something like this … it means so much.”
LeBron’s foundation is partnering with the University of Akron in Ohio to fulfil the pledge with six years until the first scholarship goes out.
Who says sports stars don’t do anything good with their money?
