Days after publicly stating that the doctors’ strike “does not make
sense” and that he will not authorise any payment outside the budget to
satisfy the demands of the striking public sector workers, President
Mahama has said the doctors are “important human resource.”
Scores of people are reported to have died as a result of the doctors
strike and the seeming breakdown of negotiations between government and
the doctors.
The doctors say, as essential service providers, they are entitled to
conditions of service, but government has denied them for about 23 years
now.
The President’s earlier comments, according to some of the doctors, smacks of disrespect to their profession.
In a tweet, however, the President categorically underscored the importance of the doctors to the economy.
He has also called on Ghanaians to be measured in their comments on the current strike
