The
Police, on Thursday, arraigned one Sanusi Salem in a Kado Grade 1 Area
Court, Abuja, for allegedly being in possession of an AK-47 rifle.
Sanusi, 27, of no fixed address, was arraigned in court on a one-count charge of being in possession of a weapon.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simon Ibrahim, told the court that a surveillance patrol team in Wuse 2, Abuja, arrested Sanusi and took him to the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on June 30.
He said that on that same date, the accused was caught with the gun and he could not give a satisfactory reason the gun was in his possession.
Ibrahim said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 319 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him and claimed that the bag was given to him to keep and he did not know the contents of the bag.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, refused to grant him bail and ordered that he be remanded in prison custody.
Sadiq adjourned the case till September 28 for hearing.
